About Us
Kaiora Downs is a family farm in the Hurunui district, North Canterbury. Kaiora Downs Mats was an idea that manifested itself during the Covid era, it was born out of our passion for wool and keeping things local. The value of wool was not adding up so we wanted to find a functional use for it where we were part of its processing and could provide something that would make a difference in peoples lives and for the planet.
The wool stays within the South Island for all stages of its production, finally coming back to the farm where it has a hand-touched element and is sent out as yoga mats, boot-liners and other woolly delights for your comfort & enjoyment

Kaiora Downs Mats
Born in the foothills of the Hurunui hill-country, these yoga mats were designed to bring the outdoors and the inner self together.
Wool
Created with an ethos of minimal impact, we have simply washed, dyed & felted 100% NZ wool, almost as untouched as nature intended it to be.
Vision
The sheep are raised & shorn on Kaiora Downs. The wool is all proudly scoured (washed), felted and dyed within the Canterbury region before returning home for its final stages of production.
Design
The yoga mats are currently designed for a low – medium impact exercise session. We have affixed a natural latex to the back of the mat to help prevent slipping.
Our vision for this product is cyclical.
When your mat has reached the end of its life it can be up-cycled to be used as pet-bedding, or weed mats and eventually composted back into the earth.
